Debate for Fourth Year Pharmacy Students During the past few days, fourth year PharmD students participated in a scientific debate on the topic of Abortion, were some supported the idea while others were against it. It is worth noting that debates are one of the modern methods for learning, acquiring information, and training on critical and logical thinking adopted by the Libyan International Medical University. It is noteworthy that the scientific debate is one of the arts of dialogue that helps students make decisions on controversial issues and topics in which opinions differ and data overlap. The two groups of students meet, each group has an opinion on a predetermined topic, and each team works to prepare for the debate by collecting information and evidence confirming their views. Then, students present their opinion to an audience, and try to persuade the opponents and the audience on the opinions and scientific information they provide. The debate also aims to consolidate the values of dialogue and debate among students in a manner that enables them to master the skills of meaningful dialogue. Also, it helps them learn the art of debate such as good listening, refutation and logical response, and accepting others opinions and knowledge. This participation and interaction enables the students to master the techniques of public speaking that emphasizes on critical thinking away from subjective intolerant opinions. In addition, the debate is a practice that uses reason, logic, dialogue, evidence and proof in times of conflict. The university and its various Faculties aspire to consolidate the methodology of empowerment, creativity and innovation in all its educational programs. To do this, the university aims to root these practices and benefit from various scientific experiences in order to link it to what has been achieved during the university study.
