Systemic lupus erythematous is an autoimmune disease involving multiple organs,
characterized by a vast array of autoantibodies, particularly antinuclear antibodies
(ANAs), in which injury is caused mainly by deposition of immune complexes and
binding of antibodies to various cells and tissues.
