Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria among the students of University of LIMU . asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU) is significant bacterial count in the urine, without symptoms of urinary tract infections (UTI) Urine samples were collected from 30 males and 33 females. The samples were cultured on CLED were screened for the presence of bacteria in their urine. Standard bacteriological methods were used in the screening of mid-stream urine samples collected to determine significant asymptomatic bacteriuria. Results obtained from the study showed that There were statistically significant different in asymptomatic bacteriuria with gender (X2 , P=0.004) and the was Escherichia coli .
